For three hundred years First Congregational Church has been the spiritual home for many people living in East Hartford and surrounding areas. Here thousands have come to embrace the Good News of God’s invincible love in Jesus Christ through the witness in work and deed of our members and friends. Through Christian education and compassionate outreach our commitment to serve the community has formed our reputation. If First Congregational Church can help, we will!
First Congregational Church is an active member of the United Church of Christ. The United Church of Christ now members over one and one half million people representing the union of the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Church in 1957. We support our denomination’s wider mission to the nation and the world. We support and cooperate with other Christian fellowships and so share the vigorous ecumenical spirit of the United Church of Christ. In this way we work toward the realization of our denomination’s motto, the fervent prayer of our Lord, “That They May All Be One.”
Perhaps our most distinctive feature is the warm Christian friendship which we nurture among ourselves and readily share with those who visit. We presently enjoy three weekend retreats each year, active junior and senior high youth groups, family nights, three women’s groups, many delicious pot luck suppers, and three small “Koinonia” fellowship groups. Our deaconesses maintain an active prayer list and support each member of the congregation through cards and visits and phone calls in times of need. To be a part of First Congregational Church is to be deeply loved.
